Basic Help Information
The first thing to remember is that photos are supposed to be fun. So relax. If you haven’t already done so please sign-up and download the application.
PicMe is available in two flavors. A desktop version allows you to see all the photos you have on your computer. A web-version allows you to view photos that have been shared to you. This document describes the desktop version but many of the same instructions will work with the web version. You can launch the desktop version from your start menu. You can launch the web version by going here: https://secure.raizlabs.com/picmegallery/.
Working with stacks
Your photos are arranged in stacks. Each stack represents a folder on your computer. You can flip through each stack with your mouse. If your mouse has a scroll wheel you can scroll through the stack. If your mouse doesn’t have a scroll wheel use the plus or minus in the photo to flip through images. You can also use the plus and minus on your keyboard.
Stacks are not shared untill you drag the stack to a contact or use the share toolbar button. To view the stacks you have shared with a contact just click the contact or group along the left hand side.
When you click on an image from a stack it will expand so you can view the details. To go back use the back button in the corner.
PicMe will show your My Pictures folder by default but you can easily add other folders as well. Use the Add Pictures and Contacts button in the lower left to add additional folders. Each folder you add and its subfolders will become new stacks.
Contacts and groups
Along the left hand side is a list of contacts and groups. A contact is anyone with an email address. You can create new contacts and they will automatically recieve an invitation to join PicMe.
Once you have created a contact or a group you can share photos to that person.
A group is a set of people. Anyone in the group can see photos shared to the group. You can create a group like “family” or “work” and then share photos with the entire group. When you create a group anyone in that group can invite others to join as well.
To remove a contact or group simply right click on the contact or group and select delete.
To invite more people into a group, right click the group and select “Edit group” this will allow you to add and remove members. Anyone who is a member of a group can invite more people to that group.
Sharing photos
Photo sharing with PicMe is secure. Your photos are not shared untill you share them.
To share photos to a contact you can drag the photos directly to the contact from your own stacks. You can also use the share button in the toolbar when you’re looking at a photo.
When someone shares photos you will recieve an email telling you to open up PicMe. Launch the PicMe application from your start menu or desktop. Click on the contact or group that shared photos with you.
Unsharing photos
If you shared something by accident or changed your mind simply click on the contact & find the photo you shared. Right click the photo and select “unshare.” To remove that file.
Copying and archiving photos out of PicMe
Just drag and drop your photos out of PicMe and into an folder on your computer. To archive them on a CD place a burnable CD into your computer and drag the pictures into a CD ROM icon in your computer.
Set up a personal icon
You can set a personal icon to be any photo you want. Just find a photo in your own collection, right click the photo and select “Set as my icon.”
Upgrade for higher quality and more photos
PicMe can allow you to share really large photos in high quality. The free version of PicMe allows you to share 200 photos at screen quality. You can upgrade and share thousands of photos at print quality. To upgrade select the menu item “Account Information” and choose the upgrade button.
Share with the world
If you have a Flickr or Facebook account you can share with more then just your friends and family. From the left hand side select “Online Services” and authorize your accounts. This is a one time setup process to get these online services working. Once this is done you can drag photos to the Flickr or Facebook icon to share with the entire world.
Tell your friends about PicMe Photo Sharing
The best part about PicMe Photo Sharing is that when your friends use the software to share their photos it allows you to get more phtos in higher quality. If you care about photos help spread the word. Friends don’t let friends email photos.
